MINISTRIES

There is Something for Everyone!

Children's Ministry

We believe that it is never too early to start guiding our children in "the way they should go." Starting at birth, children are welcomed to our beautiful nurseries and pre-school facilities in the SHBC Kids Wing. We have graded Sunday school classes for elementary-aged children. We also have age-appropriate children's churches and various children's choirs as well.

On Wednesday evenings, children age 4 through 6th grade enjoy our Master Clubs programs where they learn Bible lessons, sing songs, memorize Scripture, and enjoy a time of organized games and physical activity. ď»ż

Journey 2 Recovery

OUR MISSION

At Journey 2 Recovery we are aware that addiction effects 1 in 4 people with no regard to age, gender, or class. Having a church family that loves and surrounds these individuals helps create a support network of family that the addict can rely on when the pressures of life hit. Many people who fall into addiction have burned bridges with their families and loved ones and do not have a support group on which they can depend.

We offer weekly classes taught primarily using the Holy Bible and seek to counsel individuals based on the truths found within its pages. We offer accountability and group time for discussion and additional counseling. Each week we share testimonies of victory and prayer requests.

Journey 2 Recovery meets every Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. We offer a program for children of all ages, nursery and transportation if needed. Our desire is to minister to the entire family.

We believe the best way to overcome an addiction is through a program like Journey 2 Recovery, which is based upon Bible principles. Our staff is well-trained to help those in the program overcome their addictions and begin their Journey 2 Recovery! We are here to help! Please call (615) 485-4626 or email jnorton@shbcministries.org

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that God has designed His local church to be a support group for those who are hurting. Whether it is His children who need restoration, or an addict who is hopelessly lost and without Christ, the church is God’s instrument for support. The lost and found can find or cultivate a personal relationship with Christ at the local church. They can find emotional support by those who will fulfill the law of Christ by bearing these folks’ burdens at the local church. They can find opportunities of worship and of service at the local church, which will help replace the large amounts of time that were once given over to Satan. At the local church they can establish friendships, which will help provide a way of escape from their temptation.

At Journey 2 Recovery, we help individuals overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21) by teaching them to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. The Biblical truth to overcoming addictions is found in Galatians 5:16: “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” The goal then is not merely to get out from under the control of an addictive habit, but also to get under the control of the Holy Spirit.

WHAT IS AN ADDICTION OR STRONGHOLD?

Addiction is at its core spiritual in nature. Stemming from an improper spiritual condition, which the Bible calls sin, people with addiction use substances or engage in behaviors that become compulsive strongholds and often continue despite harmful consequences. These repeated behaviors often create physical dependence and can also result in physiological and mental illnesses.

Journey 2 Recovery takes a “whole” man approach. For the mental and physical side of addiction, we refer our students to local doctors and specialists to assist. Our focus is to address the core spiritual side of addiction. We provide support and hope to those dealing with addictive behaviors through faith and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. To the local church, accountability partners, and weekly classes and lessons pertaining to their personal need.

This victory over addiction and strongholds is obtained and retained not through an experience of ongoing effort, but through a once in a lifetime decision to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and a subsequent dedication to developing a dynamic love relationship with Him. 1 John 5:4, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”

STATEMENT OF FAITH

THE BIBLE

The Bible is God's love letter, God's Holy Word, inerrant, infallible preserved for us today. Its truth is eternal and its message is relevant for the church today.

THE ONE AND ONLY LIVING GOD

God exists in three distinct persons who are the same in nature but distinctive in functions: The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit-Tri-Unity.

JESUS CHRIST

The eternal Son of God was born of a virgin, literally rose from the dead and ascended to heaven, is undiminished deity and perfect humanity permanently united in one person. It was through His sacrificial death on the cross that He removed once and for all the barrier of sin between God and man.

MANKIND

We believe that man was created in the image of God, yet he is fallen in his sinfulness.

SALVATION

Salvation is the unearned gift from God to anyone who will receive in dependence the provision that Christ's death, burial and resurrection is the sufficient and necessary requirement for eternal life.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is a person who permanently indwells every believer from the moment of salvation. He provides every believer with gifts for service and with the fullness of God's power to make him adequate for living. As a person acts in dependence upon the Spirit, he will progressively grow into maturity.

THE LOCAL CHURCH

The church is an assembly of believers who voluntarily join themselves together to carry out the great command found in Acts 1:8.

THE ORDINANCES

Ordinances are to be observed commemorating Christ's works for the church: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism is practiced by individuals as a symbolic expression of personal identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. The Lord's Supper is practiced corporately as a symbolic reminder of His provision for salvation for the church.

THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

We believe in the pre-millenial pre-tribulation rapture of Jesus Christ. We believe Christ will rapture the church before the tribulation and will return with those who are saved for the final battle after the tribulation.

Bus Ministry

The Bible commands us to go to the highways and hedges and that is exactly what we do here in the bus ministry at South Haven. There are three forms of outreach through our bus ministry.

FIRST, we have the buses that pick up children and adults each and every Sunday for Sunday school and church.

SECOND, we have what we call "open-air" meetings that take place outside in various neighborhoods across Middle Tennessee throughout the week.

And THIRD, we have Bible Clubs that are conducted after school in local community centers in Nashville and greater Nashville.

We are so grateful for the privilege to minister to each and every person that God brings our way. If you would like to be a part of any of these meetings or would like to serve in this area, please contact our Bus Director, Brent Epley.
